Description
Your bid is for the June 1942 issue of TRAINS Magazine, which is Volume 2, Number 8. This digest-sized issue measures 17.4 by 26.0 cm and contains 52 pages with Editors: A.C. Kalmbach, Linn H. Westcott and Willard V. Anderson. The cover features a Chicago & Eastern Illinois Pacific No.1020 hauling The Dixie Limited. An inside cover photo of a Pacific Electric 0-6-0 is a curiosity until you read the feature article. GLORIFIED HOT-WATER HEATER by I.E. August explains the various types of feedwater heaters over 6 pages, with 8 good photos and 4 drawings and clear text. PACIFIC ELECTRIC by Frank P. Donovan Jr. explains the Orange Empire route that featured nearly 1,000 route miles, 55 locomotives, 2147 freight cars and 2189 daily passenger trains. Linn H. Westcott provides two maps as well as 4 of the 18 fine photos in this wonderful, 22-page definitive feature. Will we ever get back to civilized transport in Los Angeles? Actually, LA is now poised to lead the nation, Sacramento and Washington permitting! THEY'LL NEVER GO AGAIN is a 6 page staff article on the scrapping of railroad rolling stock. 7 sad photos are included. An interesting thumbnail sketch of the Wheeling & Lake Erie follows on half a page. RAILROAD WONDERLAND IN SOUTHERN NEW YORK is a staff feature on the seven railroads that crisscross around Campbell Hall and Middletown. Westcott provides a full-page map and some of the 19 photos spread over 8 pages are smaller than some may wish, but I am glad they are there. AS OTHERS SEE OUR RAILROADS is subtitled: A British schoolboy looks at the New Haven., and that is a fascinating glimpse of a very busy psgr railway in steam. That piece is trailed by Letters and The Month. Motive Power on the Cassville & Exeter fills the inside rear cover, while Central Vermont Consol 463 smokes it up northbound at Bridge 82.55 in Westminster, Vermont, on the rear cover. This magazine is in excellent, museum-quality condition, with just light spine wear and minor rust stains on the centerfold from being in a rod binder in unheated storage.Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
