Description
In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 1113 train order images from the SOO Line Railroad. This includes all locations from previous roads absorbed by the Soo Line on January 1, 1961.Included are 3 station lists showing each location and the number of images available from that location.
Also included are 106 total images of 4 SOO Line public timertables, and one SOO Line system employee timetable. These timetables are:
SOO Line system employee timetable No. 1 dated January 1, 1985 66 pages;
System public timetable dated June 12, 1954 19 pages including map;
System public timetable dated March 6, 1960 15 pages with map;
System public timetable dated December 10,m 1963 4 pages; and
System public timetable dated October 30, 1966. Down to 2 pages. This may be one of the last publics issued for the SOO Line.
This was a very important Railroad in American history, and used train orders throughout their existence until train orders were discontinued entirely in 1987 or 1988, on the SOO Line.
This CD contains 1113 train order images from 193 different locations. There is at least one train order image from each station listed, according to the count after the station name in the station list. Those are on both SOO Line and MStP&SSM forms, mostly Form 19 orders. There are a few Form 31 orders scattered throughout this CD from various locations..
There are 1,222 total images on this CD. Each of the timetables shown has its own folder for easy reference.
Ages of the orders range from 1938 to 1987, probably the last year the SOO Line issued train orders. I can't immediately recall if I have any from 1988, but train orders were definitely gone by that year or very shortly thereafter.
Merger notes: the Wisconsin Central and the DSS&A merged into the SOO Line (officially) on January 1, 1961. Previous to this, this Railroad was called the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railway, quite a mouthful. No wonder they started calling it the SOO Line much earlier. The Mineral Range Railroad previously merged into the DSS&A, before both were absorbed by the SOO Line on the above-mentioned date.
The 12 pictures shown are a good sampling of the quantity and variety of locations, engine numbers (a few steam) and other operations unique to this very important Railroad.
The orders in this CD show many operators' names, track conditions, operating procedures, and other types of orders, all consistent with train-order operation. Even in CTC and ABS territory in later years, train orders were still used for slow orders and when main-line tracks were taken out of service. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere.
Very nice items that are obsolete and no longer used by any Railroad.
