Description
In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 464 Santa Fe train order images, covering the entire New Mexico Division of the Santa Fe Railway. This CD covers the main line between Belen and Clovis via Vaughn, the Carlsbad District from Clovis to Carlsbad, and the El Paso District from Belen to El Paso. The Deming and Pecos Districts are also included. Included is one station list showing each location and the number of orders copied at that location. Also included are 15 images comprising the entire New Mexico Division employee timetable No. 6 dated August 4, 1968. This allows the reader to see where each location was, with respect to the others. This was a very strategic piece of main-line Railroad, and was train-order territory in many parts, up until the Santa Fe did away with train orders entirely, around 1986.
There are 34 different locations represented here, with at least one train order image from each location. Ages of the orders range from 1915 to 1985. This is very comprehensive coverage of this line operations-wise. Most of it was single track, even though CTC'd in later years. After CTC was installed, train orders from all intermediate points became very rare, account there were very few instances where one of these locations would put out an order, due to CTC and radio communication.
Emphasis was placed on including the orders on the El Paso and Carlsbad Districts. There is a fair share of main-line orders included, but the El Paso and Carlsbad Districts were run exclusively on train orders until train orders were discontinued around 1986.
There are a couple of images of orders issued to the "Super C", the world's fastest freight train, which set a transcontinental record between Chicago and Los Angeles that still stands today. That train ran from 1968 to 1976.
The 12 pictures shown are just a sampling of the quantity and variety of locations, engine numbers (a few steam) and other operations unique to this very well-traveled piece of Railroad.
The orders in this CD shows many track conditions, operating procedures, operators' names, and many meets and flag orders, all consistent with train-order operation. Even during CTC times, orders were still required as slow orders. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere.
Very nice items that are obsolete and no longer used by any Railroad.
