Your bid is for the November 1950 issue of RAILROAD MAGAZINE, which is Volume 53, Number 2, published by Popular Publications of Kokomo, Indiana, with Editorial and Executive Offices at 205 East 42nd Street in New York City. This digest-sized issue measures 16.9 by 24.0 cm and contains 148 pages with Henry B. Comstock as Editor. The cover painting by Herb Mott is called "Shays in the Sierras". FROZEN STIFF is a True Tale that goes back to brakin' in 1910 on the Canadian National out of Horneypayne, Ontario, by Bob Sharkey spread over 2 pages. RECIPE FOR A CLASS 1 RAILROAD by John A. Thompson is the New York Central Railroad story told over 22 pages, including a map and 19 photos ranging from the Selkirk Hump to trackside in GCT to a tug boat at work. A great railroad it was and this is a fine tribute to the way it was 65 years ago. VATICAN CITY RAILWAY takes us to Rome to show this private road built in the late 1920's to deliver mail to the Vatican. This 4 page staff feature contain 4 fine photos. CHINA INTERLUDE by Lt. Col. Jesse D. Cope begins with 1900 and claims 12 pages later that fighting in China has been continuous for 50 years with no long intermissions in the near future. This interesting history includes a dozen photos and was written by someone who was there and participated in train movements. SHORTLINE TO NOWHERE follows the cover of this issue with a 5 page report on the West Side Lumber Company by Othmar Tobisch. At the time the company had 10 lokeys in use to move timber from the Tuolumne Canyon about 75 miles east of Stockton, California. A drawing of the Heisler and 2 of Shays accompany this first-person story. Light of the Lantern begins with 5 pages on the ET Brake Equipment. Out of the Car Shops: New Gondolas from Old shows how Union Pacific did it on 2 pages with 5 photos. TRAVELING AUDITOR by Samuel James is a True Tale. telling in the first person, as the writer first worked as an op and then went on to be a travelling auditor for the Southern Railway with headquarters at Birmingham, Alabama. The 6 pages are in the finest Railroad Magazine tradition of reality railroadin'. FIRST OF THE CAMELBACKS: P&R's 408 is shown in photo and drawings on 2 pages. WHILE THE ANGEL WATCHED is a True Tale by William F. Knapke that tells of Garnet, or Palm Springs, on the Southern Pacific, over 7 exciting pages. Electric Lines: CITIZENS TRACTION COMPANY by Donald K. Slick details this ancient Pennsylvania electric line that was among the first in the world to operate and ran in the Oil City and Franklin area. This story covers 7 pages and includes 6 photos and a map. TICKET TO DESTRUCTION by E.S. Dellinger is this month's fiction told over 16 pages. LOCOMOTIVES OF THE SANTA FE, PART II lists the Diesels, and there were many, on 2 page with 2 photos. On The Spot is spread over 21 pages and includes a fine full-page photo of the Southern Railway roundhouse at John Sevier, Tennessee. This magazine is in excellent condition as these old pulps go. Hard to find them in this era without a mailing label pasted across the front cover. The spine is professionally protected against deterioration and contamination with Scotch No.845 Book Tape.
