Description
Your bid is for the October 1949 issue of the BOSTON AND MAINE RAILROAD MAGAZINE. This digest-sized publication measures 15.6 by 23.2 cm and contains the usual 32 pages. The front cover shows train No. 54 crossing the Green River in Greenfield, Massachusetts. That's eastbound Troy to Boston. We locals now call that the Dunkin' Donut Bridge. Page 2 in entitled REMINDERS OF YESTERYEAR ON OUR RAILROAD and features 5 small and old photos: Standard 1015 at Roberts Crossing; a westbound milk run at South Bolton; Mogul 175 at Mechanicville in 1908 still lettered Fitchburg; 0-6-0 347 in Greenfield MA way-back-when, with the crew identified; and the Fitchburg RR Standard inspection locomotive at Mechanicville in 1897. B. AND M. HAS PROUD TRADITION is a 2 page article by Editor-in-Chief Cliff Somerville on New England's colleges and secondary schools that have grown up alongside the B&M Railroad. The centerfold backs up the story and features Dartmouth, Williams, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, N.H. University, and Amherst and is shown below. It is said that the most valuable shipment ever on the B&M was when No.712 stopped at Northampton to pick up the Smith women going home for Christmas vacation. The B&M police would be out in full force, and, as a courtesy, very few tickets would be punched or collected by the crew on the quick trip into Springfield. Northampton was one of just three "Class A" stations on the B&M. AGENT, WIFE CREATE STATION OF DISTINCTION is the Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, story told over 2 pages including 2 photos. BAGGAGEMAN HAS BOATING BUSINESS is the story of Greenfield's William G. Gardner and his Connecticut River boat and canoe livery. I remember him well as a very enterprising person! And always trying to hide from the B&M brass. SCENES AT SYSTEM FEDERATION OUTING fills 2 pages with 9 photos of families with everyone identified, as they once again enjoy Whalom Park in Fitchburg. HOW WE'RE DOING shows a deficit for July of ,335. AMONG THOSE RETIRING fills a full page and includes 2 photos. WITH THE BOSTON AND MAINE FAMILY fills pages 18-31 and includes 33 photos. This magazine is in excellent, museum-quality condition.Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
